Fallacy of Holocene Extinction Thesis

American scientists are reported to have studied and concluded a prediction of mass extinction of species including humans on the Earth, unless present ways of humanity are changed. According to them, this would be the sixth extinction process on the Earth with one of these being extinction of Dinosaurs 65 m years back. Another conclusion of the study is that animals are dying at a rate 100 times of the normal death rate as an indicator of the beginning of the mass extinction.

First of existence of dinosaurs on the planet is doubtful as nothing can be certainly said about what happened even 1 million years back what to talk of 65. What is presumed comes from shear imaginations of a few persons who are managing their lavish livelihoods through such theses without doing any productive work useful to humanity.

Dinosaurs are said to be gigantic flying animals which is quite impossible. Natural evolution causes enlargement of size of a living species only when it is too much lethargic and gets lavish food at the place of its lying. Such a species of life has no chance of flying.

Birth and Death Rates of Animals

Death of animals at a very high rate as reported is due to their taking birth at even higher rate. Overall result is that number of species as well as population of each on the Earth has been on the rise. Any observant person of over 60 years of age would easily concur on this through his/her observations during the last 50 years.

Genesis of Life

About genesis of life, Scientists opine that it evolved once some thousands of million years back and species have been evolving from that genesis since then. This thesis too is wrong. Life keeps on evolving in microform and then evolving every moment of time wherever suitable environment is available.

What goes Extinct?

Any species of life becoming redundant in overall designs of the Nature goes extinct on its own. It is an autonomous process like that of evolution.  Species of life go on becoming redundant and go on becoming extinct all the time. Humans commanding the planet in their own selfish interests, their moves may make redundant even some worthy life species also. For such mishandling of affairs of life, humanity is made to pay a price in terms of miseries.

About Extinction of Humanity

Human life is no more dependent on natural circumstances for the humanity choosing a highly protected lifestyle path using their intellectual faculties, altogether different from that of Nature. However, the Nature still governs lives of wild animals. So humanity would never go instinct for natural reasons. Only death rate will remain high for higher birth rate. About a century back, a few thousand deaths of humans at a locality used to make a great difference, but today death of a million humans becomes a thing of the past in a few days. See the cases of recent disasters in Haiti in Africa and Badrinath in India.

In-spite of the humanity being in command of human life as a whole for its intellectual way of living, there is going to be a change of composition of human life – from the present with physical dominance to intellectual dominance.

Division of Humanity

Over a period of about 3,000 years, some humans have been working intellectually while most others rely on physical work for their livelihoods. From the point of view of intellectualism, this puts humans into two distinct classes – sub-humans and super-humans, with the former performing physically with their bodies, the latter use their intellect. Fundamental difference between the two classes is their working sub-consciously and consciously. It is expected that these two classes would come to recognition in another 1 century which would lead to a clear division in humanity into sub-humans and super-humans.

Extinction of Sub-human class

With machines taking over physical operations and doing better than humans, and artificial intelligence being used to control machines, sub-humans would soon become redundant and become extinct. This would reduce total human population on the planet to a great extent, eliminating many problems humanity is facing today due to overpopulation. That would be the golden period for human life on the Earth. Let us hope this happens soon.

Health above ALL

Every person has merits and demerits with respect to his/her health, making the health differentiation in people. Individual’s economic condition and his/her health consciousness may be said to be the factors behind these differentiations. Though economic condition has a telling impact on health, it may be minimized if the person is conscious about maintaining good health which may even be achieved using simple yet critical ways to health. What matters in this respect is the person’s studies and right knowledge about healthy foods and other conditions. Most of the persons suffer in health matters not only because of their poverty but because of their affluence too. People in general know very little about being healthy.

Two other factors responsible for health differentiation are individual’s inheritance and his character with respect to discipline and his/her involvement in vices. There are some diseases which are transmitted through inheritance from one generation to another. It is noteworthy here that an inherited disease may not be eliminated completely in a generation from further transmission to the next generation, but it can surely be stopped from continuing through generations with conscious efforts of three consecutive generations. Same way, a disease continuing for three consecutive generations earns the potency of becoming an inheritance-transmitted disease.

Discipline and keeping away from vices play important roles in an individual’s health. Intoxication and sexism are two most damaging vices for health, and incidentally, both of these victimize affluent persons, very often. Thus, affluence may be a cause of bad health without a sense of discipline in life.

What does a good health mean?

Medical professionals would like to answer this question as ‘being disease-free’. But it is neither the complete answer nor the objective definition of health. To me, good health means that a person has four attributes –

Physical Health,

Intellectual Health

Resilience, and

Out of these, the first two attributes work beneficially for current existence of the person while the latter two are his/her safeguards for future health. It may be argued that if the health at all the current times is ensured, there is no need for any consideration for the future. It is true, but all the whole lifetime of a person doesn’t remain the same for two universally present circumstantial factors of unforeseen adversities and ageing of the person. These two factors may damage health in the future of a person in-spite of his/her current sound health. The latter two attributes of health are to take care of these probable and essential yet adverse occurrences in the future.

Physical Health

Physical health of a person is not a mere consideration of his/her physical appearance. There are millions of persons appearing to be hale and healthy from an outer appearance but suffering from many internal diseases and incapable of leading active lifestyles. In the modern age of fast moving vehicles, many so-called healthy persons are unable to walk a little distance for their being out of practice without a motor-vehicle. Such persons develop many other diseases in their respective bodies due to their inactive lifestyles. Converse to this, there are persons who train their bodies to be so stout and well-built, like the wrestlers, boxers, etc, with no time or resources for any mental or intellectual activities that they become like wild beasts. This too can’t be said to be a good physical health for the imbalance in their bodies.

An active body means good health of mind of the person for the mind residing as neural network spread all over the body and taking care of internal and external activities of the body. So, when we say ‘active body’, we mean active mind also of the person. Therefore, physical health includes mental health but not the intellectual health of the person. The mental health is related to activities of the body organs under control of the mind of the person, while the intellectual health is related to sound functionality of the person’s brain including soundness of his/her memory, analytic thinking capability, imaginative creativity, and precise body organ controls.

Intellectual Health

Final parameter of a person’s intellectual health is his/her tangible creative outputs, or creation of things or thoughts not existing so far. All new developments for convenience and comforts of humanity are created through this talent of people. Keep on involving in purely intellectual activities with no care for the body is too detrimental to overall health of the person and to even his/her intellectual health.

The most important application of intellectual health is to take care for balanced development of the self and the society, thus improving the humanity. This includes taking care of physical health of the self through selection of foods and physical activities in an optimum way. Development of medicines for curing diseases that may occur incidentally in individual bodies is also the part of this intellectualism. In the same spirit, contribution to developments in the fields of Science and Technology, Humanities and Philosophy, etc is also indicator of the person’s intellectual health.

Another important aspect of intellectual health is development of individuality as the most important part and parcel of society. Only those with strong individuality form a strong society. Dependence on majority view and crowd psychology are intellectual weaknesses of the individual. Such people even in a majority form a weak society that may easily drift from standard humanistic norms.

Although every person has creative talent but most of the persons are not using or finding opportunity to use their creative talents. As a result of this non-use of talent, it vanishes in three generations through genetic modifications. Those using their creative talents improve upon it through generations.

For this reason, humanity is on the verge of dividing itself in two distinct segments of productive and creative peoples. The productive people would be good at hard labor and mass producing things through their physical health, while creative people would be developing new things through their intellectual health. It may be that in future, these two classes of people be recognized as humans and super-humans, respectively. So far, medical profession has paid no attention to intellectual health of humanity for its preoccupation with physical health only.

Resilience of a functional system is its ability to continue functioning well even under adverse situations. This concept applies equally well to organic and inorganic systems, organizations and also to health of individual living-beings. In case of individual health, resilience is not related to stoutness of the body but to its adaptive capability to circumstantial changes to keep ever healthy. Adaptability of the body has two components.

First component of adaptability is sensitivity of the body to changing circumstances. This is a sort of delicacy of the body that gets influenced even to minor changes in the environment. Second component of the adaptability is flexibility of organic components of the body. Sensitivity and flexibility, working together under control of the natural forces of life, produce resilience in the body that goes on sensing the external factors of health and adjusting to them to keep the body in good health.

Globalization has put a new challenge to health of a huge number of individuals required to move globally to meet their career and business aspirations. Their health needs more resilience than those staying in unitary climatic zones. Ecological damages too tend to bring about unforeseen climatic changes needing people to be tolerant to these, hence being resilient health-wise.

Medical profession has not paid any attention to this health issue also, so far creating more patients to them due to failure of people’s health in being adaptive to changes in circumstances which are now more common than before.

Resistance to deterioration of a person’s body and brain under effects of ageing is termed as his/her agility. Thus, an agile person remains equally hale and healthy throughout his/her lifetime irrespective of his/her age. This attribute of health has a higher demand now for the medical profession’s success in improving longevity of people, thus creating a huge number of old sick persons in the world to be fed and taken care for by the healthy people. Unless, people wake up fast to attain agility with or without assistance from the medical profession, the whole of healthy humanity will be plagued with carrying aged and sick people on their shoulders with little resources left for productive and creative activities.

Agility is more of an individual’s concern than that of the society or the medical profession. With taking selective and locally and organically grown seasonal foods, more of vegetables and fruits, and less of sugars, flour-products, and fats, an individual can attain a good amount of agility, though its attainment in full is still a long-distant dream.

Thus, a person is truly healthy only if he/she has all the four parameters discussed above with good functionality. A good health must be reflected in output of the person positively influencing his/her society, health of a person is not his/her individual asset but that of the whole society at local level and that of the whole humanity at the global level. This makes individual health as a concern of the whole humanity, with a particular responsibility of the intellectual lot of the humanity.

How to be an Intellectual

Conscious work
Conscious work

Humans have the most evolved brains of all the species of life on the Earth. The brain gets its input of experiential information from memory, its process is thinking, and its output are commands to sensory and actuary organs of the body to act accordingly.

A living-being has two types of interactions with the external world – sensory to pick up information, and actuary to influence the external world. Former interaction is carried out by five sensory organs while the latter is carried out by the actuary organs of the body.

Both the sensory and actuary organs may perform their functions in two ways – subconscious and conscious. The subconscious performance is carried out fast under control of the mind – the neuronal network spread in the body. For example, ‘seeing’ is a sensory input at subconscious level while its counterpart ‘watching’ is a conscious sensory activity. While a subconscious sensory actions leave no or a light impression on the memory, this doesn’t enrich the person with more experiential information, conscious sensory activity of watching deeply records the information gathered in the memory which may be retrieved back later and utilized if need be. This applies to all the five sensory organs of a body. Thus, only conscious sensory activities add to a person’s experiences.

Our action organs too act in two different ways. Routine reflexes of the body caused by instinct of survival and safety are operated by the mind with no involvement of the brain. Even oft-repeated activities by tongue, hands and feet, and excretion organs may also be performed at subconscious level under control of the mind only. Such operations are performed fast by the person. Conscious working involves a long process of tracking relevant experiential information from memory, thinking and commanding the actuary organs concerned, it is time-consuming and somehow inconvenient to lazy persons.

Habitual Subconscious Work
Habitual Subconscious Work

Subconscious approach is based on habits and controls only oft-repeated sensing and activities by the body, while every new activity essentially needs conscious approach with involvement of the brain. Conscious actions leave a deeper impression of experiential information on the memory for future uses. But even oft-repeated activities may be taken up consciously through involvement of the brain.  This slows down the activities as compared to those with subconscious approach, but keeps the brain always in active mode, hence sharp. The sharpness of the brain and its remaining in ever-active mode expedites conscious activities somehow.

A person has the options open to him for each sensory and actuary operation for putting into subconscious or conscious mode. Based on this, he/she gets enriched by experiential information and capability of putting his/her brain to apply for solving a problem. All intellectual and creative activities by a person need involvement of his/her brain, hence are conscious activities. Persons too much habitual and dependent on the use of their minds only can perform routine activities faster but become incapable of using their brains for intellectual and creative activities. Thus, intellectualism requires regular practice of using of using brain by a person.

It is not that the habitual practices have no positive role in human life and only intellectual practices are sufficient to serve all purposes of life. Habitual practices save on human resources and their capabilities, hence essential from economy point of view. It is similar to production at mass scale of a developed is essential to make it available to the large human population, while development of the product using creative talent is also essential without which no production would be possible. Thus, both the conscious and subconscious activities are essential to human life in overall perspective.

Therefore, if you want to be an intellectual some day, do most of the sensory and actuary activities consciously, and make it a habit of your body. You would soon find a quantum change in your outlook, ways of working and your favorite things to do.

What makes My Life a Celebration

childSince I began translation of Ayurvedic scripture Bhavaprakash and publishing articles on matured topics out of it on my website Ram Bansal on Vedic Life and Ayurveda, I have been feeling highly focused in my work, and feelings of being healthy, active and happiness keep on surrounding me all the time. Life has become a celebration to me. This has been due to changes in my food ingredients and keeping busy in authoring and gardening with a reduction in my socializing activities in the village and elsewhere. People come to me, see my lifestyle and appreciate it with their repentance of their own inability of following the same line. This brings a few key factors of my life and reasons thereof which I intend to share here for my own analytic study of the situation. Continue reading “What makes My Life a Celebration”
